We began the week going on a ‘listening adventure’! Everyone made listening crowns which we adorned before climbing the stairs and exploring the school and playground. Armed with clipboards and pencils, the children ticked what sounds they could hear, from the big girls laughter, to the phone ringing in the office, the sound of the school bell, vehicles on the road and the wind rustling the leaves in the trees. Miss Maughan’s impromptu song whist playing the ukulele by the stairs was a particularly favourite sound!
After the unpredictable weather we experienced last week, Incy Wincy Spider and his friends moved from the water pipe inspired waterplay into the autumn discovery trays where the children used tweezers to uncover the hidden treasures under the autumnal leaves collected from the playground.
In the number room we introduced the colour yellow. Inspired by the book, ‘Yellow Time’, by Lauren Stringer, the children explored the yellow treasures in the sensory tray and created yellow art using a selection of collage materials.
Our nook under the stairs continued to be a big hit as the mountain of laundry that needed to be hung up to dry and ironed was never ending!
