This week we continued our harvest topic, naming and sorting seasonal fruit and vegetables. We explored where different fruit and vegetables grow and prepared our own autumnal feast for snack time.

Last week’s garden under the stairs proved to be very fruitful! Our fruit and vegetables were harvested and sent to the ‘Farmers Market’. The children enjoyed engaging in role play with their friends, acting out different characters such as shopkeepers and customers.

In the letter room, we introduced the sound ‘t’ with the tale, ‘The Enormous Turnip’. Variations of the tale were read and told using story props. The children had a lot of fun acting out the story and re-telling their version to their friends.

The tent, tucked into the corner of the room, proved very popular! The children took turns crawling inside and creating games around torches and teddy bears.

Inspired by the book, ‘Kindness Grows’, by Britta Teckentrup, the children shared how they feel when someone is kind to them and how we can show kindness to others. The children’s words were written down on leaves and added to our own ‘kindness’ apple tree.

In the number room we enjoyed songs, rhymes, books and games focused around number 5 and the colour purple. Everyone made a ‘handprint’ tree and scrunched crepe paper into purple plums. Dried lavender added a calming scent in the sensory colour tray and lashings of glue was used to help create purple works of art.

Next week we will be focusing on leaves, looking at the different types of trees that they come from and why they change colour during autumn.
