We have had a fun filled week, learning about different types of weather.
In the letter room we focused on the sound ‘c’ and clouds. The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring the texture of shaving foam in their sensory play. They made white puffy cumulus clouds using shaving foam puff paint. For those who are keen to try this at home, the recipe is three parts sensitive shaving foam and one-part PVA glue mixed together. This can either be used as a sensory experience with hands in a bowl or a tray or to create foam pictures with. Note: It can take two to three days to dry, however, the end product will remain puffed up!
In the corner of the room, Incy Wincy Spider and his friends came to visit for weather and water pipe inspired waterplay.
In the number room we focused on number two and the colour blue. We introduced the colour with the wonderful book, ‘The Blue Balloon’, by Mick Inkpen. The children explored the blue treasures in the lavender scented sensory tray and created blue art using a selection of collage materials.
In keeping with our weather theme, we read the book, ‘Little Raindrop’ by Melanie Joyce, a gentle, rhyming introduction to the life of a raindrop and the water cycle. The children then cut and decorated two rain drops falling from their grey nimbus clouds.
We took turns counting out two matching pairs of animals to walk in and out of the ark, afterwards the children enjoyed creating stories around these story props.
Our nook under the stairs was particularly busy this week with a mountain of laundry that needed to be hung up to dry and ironed. There was a whirlwind of activity and laughter as children dusted and swept the home corner, banister and at times, each other!
