This week we continued to focus on Andy Goldsworthy and his ephemeral art. With books such as Nature is an Artist, by Jennifer Lavallee and I am an Artist, by Nikki Slade Robinson, we saw art could be created using both natural and manmade materials and how nature inspires many artists including Nursery!

In the letter room we introduced the concept of opposites. We enjoyed matching opposites in songs, actions, card games and a selection of books, including the beautifully illustrated Big and Small, Room for All, by Jo Ellen Bogart and illustrated by Gillian Newland.

This week we continued focusing on patterns. We revisited the concept of what makes a pattern and those able enjoyed the challenge of completing and making more complex patterns.

We all had an amazing time on Tuesday and Thursday at Kensington Gardens. The weather held as we explored fallen trees and tramped through long grass to find the perfect place to create our own pieces of land art. After tidying our creations, we explored more of the park and discovered trees housing lots of families of ladybirds, from larvae, to pupae, to fully formed ladybirds. We continued on in search for just the right area for our picnic before heading back to the coach.

Next week we will take a look back at the artists we have focused on, and take a look forward to those in nursery who will begin their next chapter in reception classes in September. We will finish our short week with a party both in the morning and afternoon.

We look forward to seeing you all for an end of year farewell in the playground.
