This week we continued focusing on the fairy tale ‘The Gingerbread Man’. We looked at a few newer versions of the story with alternative endings such as The Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett and The Gingerbread Girl by Lisa Ernest.

We had a creative week with the children retelling and re-enacting the original story, creating their own versions in ‘the little old woman’s kitchen’ and with the small world toys.

The children had fun scooping and pouring lentils in the orange coloured sensory tray. We made oranges for our tree in the letter room and decorated a gingerbread friend finger puppet each to ‘run, run…’.

We enjoyed counting out and matching objects in twos with the gingerbread man memory game and matching animals two by two to go into the ark.

Today we baked our own delicious gingerbread men using the recipe given by our resident celebrity Mrs Astrid ter Averst (the Falkner House art and DT teacher), who came second in the gingerbread house competition on Channel 4’s, Kirstie’s Homemade Christmas 2020!
