This week we focused on ‘Feelings’. The children were introduced to this topic with the book ‘The Colour Monster’ by Anna Llenas. Everyone took turns to share how they feel and discussed what makes them feel happy, sad, calm, cross, scared and loved.
The children shared what they thought they looked like when experiencing these different feelings. We then played games where we mimicked those feelings with our facial expressions.
We spoke about how it is ‘ok’ to feel the way we do. It is important to recognise all our feelings and accept them when we experience them. We then looked at a few ways to manage our feelings.
The number room was full with colour as the children sorted ‘coloured feelings’ into six jars. Everyone enjoyed singing the ‘very expressive’ feeling song to the tune of, ‘If You’re Happy and You Know It’, with the Colour Monster dice determining which emotion we were to mimic next.
Under the stairs, our ‘nook’ became a castle fit for royalty where kings and queens dressed up in their finery.
In the letter room, castles were built both in the sandpit and with Magna-Tiles.
A lot of fun was had by all as we celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with both Falkner House girls and boys. Families, friends and neighbouring residents enjoyed the wonderful activities and entertainment and sense of community as we came together to honour Her Majesty’s 70th year on the throne.
