We enjoyed another week learning about snails and slugs! We looked at the life cycle of these molluscs, from eggs, to hatchlings, to snails.
We observed our snails as their peered out of their shells at the smell of new food and closely watched them sliding up the walls of their terrarium looking to see if we could see their mouths moving. Those who wished, gently held a snail.
We kept the snail theme going with a trough full of slime, home to a family of large stretchy snails and slippery slugs. Most were keen to experience the slime, for some it was the idea rather than the reality as we witnessed varying degrees of reactions once hands felt the texture!
For those who are game to try slime at home, the slime recipe is one cup of soap flakes to 2 cups of warm water beaten to a smooth frothy consistency. We added green food colouring for the extra visual experience!
On Friday the children rolled up puff pastry and cheese, creating spirals to bake into two delicious cheesy snails to share at home.
We then said goodbye to our one footed friends whom Miss Jones is taking back to her mother’s garden.
