We have had a lovely start to the term; the children were very excited to be back, see their friends again and share their many adventures from the Easter break.
This week we introduced our exciting new topic of the term, ‘Minibeasts’. We will be looking at some of these amazing types of creatures; where they live and why they are so important to us and to the environment.
We had a fun filled week learning about snails! We discovered many amazing facts such as these one footed creatures have many teeth which are found on their tongues, they are nocturnal and hibernate during the winter months.
Miss Jones went on a snail hunt in her mother’s garden and brought back sixteen snails of varying sizes and colours! We set up a terrarium for them to enjoy their stay in Nursery. All our visitors were very sociable gastropods, they seemed to be as curious of us as we were of them and thoroughly enjoyed the leaves we gave them to snack on.
We have had a very creative week. In the number room lashings of glue was used to create circle art and snail shells. In the letter room we celebrated the sound ‘b’, blowing bubbles, bouncing blue balloons and bathing babies in a bubble bath.
On Thursday we celebrated St George’s Day. The children arrived to see red and white bunting decorating Nursery along with red roses, robins and lions. After being introduced to one of the many versions of the legend of ‘kind, helpful and well mannered’ St George, the children enjoyed retelling their own versions with the story props, colouring pictures of knights, princesses and dragons and looking at story books about dragons. We all enjoyed a very English tea party with scones with strawberry jam!
