This week we travelled up north to bonny Scotland where we continued focusing on the fairy tale ‘The Gingerbread Man’. We looked at a few newer versions of the story with alternative endings such as ‘The Gingerbread Girl’ by Lisa Ernest.
We had a creative week with the children retelling and re-enacting the original story, creating their own versions in ‘wee granny’s kitchen’ and with the small world toys.
The children thoroughly enjoyed playing with the Scottish farm animals where the Gingerbread Man not only had to be wary of the fox but also Nessie living in the loch.
On Friday the children arrived to the sound of bagpipes. We enjoyed a day filled with laughter and dancing as we celebrated Burns Day; honouring the poet Robbie Burns. Together, we baked delicious shortbread to share for a very Scottish snack!
In the morning fun was had by all as we joined the whole school in the playground in an energetic reel; ‘The Dashing White Sergeant’. That afternoon we kept up the energy as we did some reeling inside and were joined by Miss Maughan for dance to more Scottish music!
