This week we welcomed the new children starting in the afternoon. We had fun discovering the toys and games set up in the classes and meeting and making new friends.
Our new topic for the spring term is ‘Fairy Tales’!
As Albert Einstein said,
“If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales.
If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.”
We focused on the fairy tale ‘The Gingerbread Man’. We looked at a few versions of the story with different characters and sometimes a different title, but all with the same key characters, plot and moral.
We enjoyed a creative week playing with scented lentils sensory tray and decorating a gingerbread friend each.
The children retold and re-enacted the story of ‘The Gingerbread Man’ and created their own versions in ‘the little old woman’s kitchen’ in our nook under the stairs and with the story props in the letter room.
On Thursday we baked our own delicious gingerbread men using the recipe given by our resident celebrity chef Mrs ter Averst (the Falkner House art and DT teacher), who came second in the gingerbread house competition on Channel 4’s, Kirstie’s Homemade Christmas!
