This week in Nursery we continued exploring the natural treasures, such as horse chestnuts and alder cones we can find in the park, woods or our gardens. The children enjoyed the sensory experience of sorting and counting some of these natural brown treasures in our discovery tray.

In the playground we collected sycamore seeds to throw into the air. Fallen leaves were also collected from the tulip tree in the playground and those blown in from our neighbour’s gardens for leaf matching and printing activities.

Another fun week of creative role play was had in the woods under the stairs. The family of Gruffalo’s, though very settled in their new home, took to popping into the classrooms for friendly giggle and growling sessions to the delight of their friends.

On Tuesday we watched ‘The Poppy Story, An Introduction for Early Years’ explaining Remembrance Day and why we see people wearing poppies. The children were introduced to the beautiful poem ‘Poppy, Poppy’.

Poppy, Poppy

Poppy, poppy, what do you say?

Please wear me on Remembrance Day.

Poppy, poppy, what do you tell?

Many soldiers in battle fell.

Poppy, poppy, what should we know?

That peace on Earth should grow, grow, grow.
