This week we introduced the children to the artist Henri Matisse; the artist who ‘painted with scissors’! We looked at some of his earlier paintings, but mainly focused on his collage pieces. Inspired by his art and stories written about him, such as ‘Henri’s Scissors’ by Jeanette Winter and ‘Matisse’s Garden’ by Samantha Friedman, the children ‘painted with scissors’ to create their own works of art and ‘g’ for gardens.
Under the stairs, our nook became Matisse’s garden where budding gardeners created and tended to the flower beds.
In the number room the children enjoyed triangle activities, both in the shape discovery tray and creating triangle art.
All week we have enjoyed the blue, white and red bunting the children made last week to help us celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
