This week we continued looking at ‘Deserts’, focusing on the biggest and coldest; Antarctica and its inhabitants. In the number room, the children enjoyed trying to balance penguins on an unstable iceberg and in the water trough, penguins and their chicks played, swam and dived in amongst shaving foam peeks and large sea mammals. In the letter room more fun was had as the Artic animals came out to play. We looked not only at the inhabitants of both these cold deserts, but also using the book ‘Ice Caps’, by Lorna Freytag, we looked at what is happening to their habitats and what small things we can do to help!
After having such fun last Friday in South America, Richmond Park, New Zealand and southern coastal waters of Australia, where Sir David Attenborough’s four favourite animals live, we decided to keep the different habitats throughout the week! Hot, warm and cold, just like the weather this week!
