This week we focused on ‘Forests’. We looked at woodland forests, from familiar ones found around the United Kingdom to those found on the other side of the world. We spoke about how important these areas are, not only for the many wonderful plants, animals, birds and insects that they are inhabited by, but also for us as forests are the lungs of our planet!

After reading the delightful and thought-provoking book ‘The Last wolf’, by Mini Grey, the children explored the forest in our ‘nook’ under the stairs searching for squirrels, birds and minibeasts.

Whilst in the letter room, the corner became the habitat for a mixture of forest dwellers from well-known furry residents in the UK to more elusive ones like Nessie from Loch Ness and some visiting kiwis from New Zealand.

On Friday the children arrived to the sound of bagpipes. We enjoyed a day filled with laughter, dancing and shortbread as we celebrated Burns Day; honouring the poet Robbie Burns. In the morning fun was had by all as we joined the whole school in the playground in an energetic reel; ‘The Dashing White Sergeant’. That afternoon we kept up the energy reeling inside and danced to more Scottish music!
