This week we focused on ‘Feelings’. The children were introduced to this topic with the book ‘The Colour Monster’ by Anna Llenas. Everyone took turns to share how they feel and discussed what makes them feel happy, sad, calm, cross, scared and loved.

The children shared what they thought they looked like when experiencing these different feelings. We then played games where we mimicked those feelings with our facial expressions.

The number room was full with colour as the children sorted ‘coloured feelings’ into six jars. Everyone enjoyed singing the feeling song to the tune of, ‘If You’re Happy and You Know It’, with the Colour Monster dice determining which emotion we were to mimic next.

On Monday, the children left Nursery with clean and sparkling teeth after a very successful tooth brushing session! The children were encouraged to share why it is important that we care for our teeth and all left that day singing the catchy teeth cleaning song sung to ‘Six Little Ducks That I Once Knew’. ‘Brush, brush, brush’ continued to be sung as we made our way up the stairs to say goodbye at the end of the sessions.

In the letter room we all enjoyed taking part in fun sensory experiences such as exploring the inside and outside of pumpkins.

In the number room the children enjoyed more sensory experiences from counting seeds we collected from the pumpkins, to scooping up lentils and moving them in and around orange coloured wooden treasures and pumpkins in our colour tray.

There was much excitement on Wednesday as we took the school bus from Brechin Place to Kensington Gardens for our autumn adventure. Fun was had by all as we searched for and collected natural treasures we found in the park. We enjoyed spotting a selection of different types of birds, from a small flock of tiny grey tits, to huge swans. We waved to Percy the Park Keeper and his friends planting young trees, spotted Yayoi Kusama’s pumpkin sculpture and watched the squirrels digging in the ground and racing up trees. To the delight of the afternoon class, we came across and jumped in two deep muddy puddles!

Reminder:

Open Day

On Friday 18th October we will open the doors for the morning parents and the afternoon parents. The times are on the calendar. This is an opportunity for the children to show their families their Nursery world.
