This week we have been focusing on London Parks. We looked at a handful of parks that the children are familiar with and shared stories of what we see, do and enjoy about these parks. We learnt that London was declared the world’s first National Park City, something to be very proud of!
Our nook under the stairs became a park for Percy the Park Keeper and his friends, the children donned wellies and hats and they created their own autumnal adventures.
There was a lot of activity in the letter room as the corner became a farmer’s market to sell and buy baked goods and home-grown seasonal fruit and vegetables.
Inspired by a book by Marion Billet, we followed Poppy the Pigeon’s travels around London through the seasons as she looked for a new home. We then took turns sharing what we like about this great city.
There was much excitement this week as we took the school bus from Brechin Place to Kensington Gardens for our autumn adventure. Fun was had by all as we searched for and collected natural treasures we found in the park. To the delight of both the children and their teachers, we came upon fallen trees. Most clambered up and either walked or crawled along the trunk before leaping off the end.
We attracted a murder of crows on Tuesday afternoon when the children all cried “cheese” whilst their photo was taken. The crows answered our ‘call’ then flew down to see what the noise was all about. We all enjoyed spotting pigeons, the odd spider web and watching the squirrels digging in the ground and racing up trees. And of course, our annual autumn outing would not be the same without spotting and waving to Percy the Park Keeper! On Friday, the morning children were treated to songs in the park with Miss Maughan and her ukulele as she and Mrs Maguire joined us on our adventure.
