This week we focused on the minibeast, butterflies. Under the stairs our nook became a home for the Very Hungry Caterpillar and his friends.
In the number room the children were introduced to the concept of patterns and enjoyed continuing a pattern and creating their own, both with shapes, minibeasts and physical actions.
The corner in the letter room became a medical centre. The children thoroughly enjoyed dressing up as doctors and nurses! They dutifully tended to their patients, occasionally referring to the x-rays for ‘confirmation’, whilst helping those feeling poorly.
The morning classes had a very exciting day on Thursday when we visited Holland Park for our minibeast adventure at the Ecology Centre. A lot of fun was had by all as we cautiously rolled logs over to see what creatures were nestled in and crawling over and under. The minibeasts were carefully swept into magnifying bottles and observed before gently being released back into the woodland.
Meanwhile, back in Nursery while all was quiet, one of our caterpillars formed its chrysalis. On Friday two of the caterpillars made their way to the lid of the jar where they hung from silk, with some more looking like they will be following in due course. After the weekend we will carefully move them into the butterfly houses for them to complete their metamorphosis.
