his week we focused on the fairy tale ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. We have had a fun a week of creative role play in the giant’s castle and storytelling with the characters from Jack and the Beanstalk in the sensory bean tray, “Fee fi fo fum” could be heard coming from both areas!
In preparation for when we plant our own bean seeds, we looked the life cycle with a short time lapsed video of a bean growing and read books; Jaspers Beanstalk, by Nick Butterworth and Caterpillar and Bean, by Martin Jinkins.
The children thoroughly enjoyed pottering in soil in the ‘Garden Centre’. We explored the different scents we can smell from herbs and the size, shape and textures of their leaves. According to some, Nursery smelt like a pizza. No matter what the scents evoked, Nursery smelt amazing!
On Wednesday, the morning class found a woolly bear caterpillar in the playground. The minibeast was brought inside and re-homed. It appeared to enjoy the fresh leaves we gave it and on Friday, had made a cocoon around itself. Now we wait in anticipation to see it transform into a big yellow moth.
