This week we focused on the fairy tale ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. We looked at original stories from authors like Vera Southgate and F. Rogankovsky and a few newer versions of the story by Emma Chichester Clark and Gerda Muller,

We have had a creative and busy few days. Under the stairs our ‘nook’ became the bears’ home. The children thoroughly enjoyed retelling and re-enacting the original story and creating their own versions of the well-known fairy tale.

In the letter room the children furnished and refurnished the doll’s house, making a warm and inviting home for the three bears – and their uninvited guest, Goldilocks!

A lot of fun was had as we acted out ‘o’ for opposites, from using the climbing boxes to leap off and sit on, to jumping above and crouching below, to inside and outside hula hoops and being loud and quiet. The children were very creative with their opposite action suggestions.

On Friday, we celebrated Lunar New Year. The children were introduced to some of the traditions celebrated throughout the 15-day festival and the origins of the Chinese zodiac animals. We had an action-packed time, retelling the story of The Great Race using the small world animals. The children enjoyed splashing in the waterlily pond and filling and pressing playdough to make dumplings with the dumpling wrapper moulds. They created their own stories with the panda family inspired by the book ‘Goldy Luck and the Three Pandas’ by Natasha Tim and built panda sanctuaries. We finished with a delicious feast of noodles, spring rolls and mandarins!

Thank you to the main school parents who gifted all of Nursery with a bag of Luna New Year treats and organised a lion dance in the playground upon arrival in the morning. We all enjoyed this wonderful experience and received many good fortune ‘blinks’ from the lion.

A huge thank you also to Yiyi, Sophie, Elyse and Phoebe’s parents in the morning class who came to share their traditions and stories and gifted the children with a Lunar New Year bag each.
