We continued to be inspired by our artist, Henri Matisse, throughout the week as the children ‘painted with scissors’ at the easel and enjoyed roleplay in his garden under the stairs.
Matisse had a love of doves and pigeons depicted in many of his works of art and fictional stories written about him, such as ‘The Iridescence of Birds; A Book About Henri Matisse’, by Patricia MacLachlan and ‘A Purr-fect Painting; Matisse’s Other Great Cat’, by Joan Waiters. Inspired by this, the children created their own ‘d’ for dove art.
For ‘d’ week, a selection of dinosaurs found their way into the letter room. A lot of messy fun was had as the children crafted stories around them and the volcano in the soil.
In the number room we enjoyed rectangles both in the shape tray and in the catchy song, ‘There is a Shape That Has Four Sides’ sung to the tune of ‘B.I.N.G.O’.
Inspire by the artist Piet Mondrian, the children created their own red, blue, yellow and white rectangle art.
