“We, Year 6, had an excellent time on Thursday 3rd October, playing netball until we couldn’t stop.
Unfortunately for us, we heard that Glendower’s bus had broken down just as we were about to get there, which meant that they couldn’t play. We all felt a little upset, thinking that we would have to go back to school. But, Miss Mulloy had a great surprise in store for us, we were going to play an inter-class netball tournament! Despite the fact that we were not playing Glendower, this news brightened our spirits, and the rest of the bus journey was full of excitement and enthusiasm for our tournament.
After ten minutes, we arrived at Battersea Park, ready for whatever lay ahead. We passed our parents, waving to them from inside the courts, and we got straight into the games. There were four teams, Pink, Purple, Blue and Green. The whistle blew, and the games started, the Centres passed with force and power, making netball seem easy, whilst the Goal Attacks stayed behind the third, waiting for the pass from the Wing Attack, swish, there it came, strong, and full of energy. The Goal Attacks held the ball steadily between their hands, and had a shot at goal, most of them went in! The ball was then passed to the Centre, and the whole process started again. Everybody flew across the court, making sure that they didn’t miss a single shot. Anaya unfortunately fell onto her knee, having to sit out for a bit, but she was extremely brave and was very confident and happy as she resumed her playing. By the end of the tournament, Miss Mulloy gathered us in, and announced the final score. The Purples came first, the Pinks second, and the Blue and Green in tied third. This was a fantastic match, anyone would pick up that Y6 enjoyed this tournament very much.”
Yasmina, Year 6 Netball Captain
“On the 9th of October 2024, team A and team B of Falkner House year 6 class arrived at Battersea park to face the respective teams of Garden House. I will be reporting for team B. We all had lots of adrenaline since this was the first match of the season. After Miss Malloy gave us our positions, we went straight to practicing and in the meantime gave each other tips which we carried out across the whole match. When Garden House arrived, we took our places. Garden House took theirs too. We faced each other waiting to start the match. We were stuck in that position for quite a while since team A wasn’t ready yet; it was almost comical! Finally, the whistle blew. We had the first centre pass so we headed straight to our half and into the D. Charlotte received a pass from Karina and we all held our breath. Charlotte took aim and shot. She scored! We cheered with joy. The goal gave us courage so we set off to play some excellent netball. I was shouting encouragement which everybody took on. We were working amazingly together. Garden House shot a couple of time but that didn’t deter us. After a lot of running, intercepting and shooting the first half ended with us in the lead by 6-2. Everyone agreed that we shouldn’t change positions since we were doing so well. Once again, we took our positions with confidence. The defenders defended; the attackers attacked and the shooters shot. When the match ended with the final whistle.
We rejoiced since we won with an amazing 11-3!”
